Our First Rose

Our landscaping has always been an ongoing process. We've changed the front of the house several times and nothing ever turns out like we had hoped. Last year I put in a pond and some plants around it and so far that has been going ok. This year at work I have spent a lot of time outside. We have a lady(inmate) who's job is to take care of the flowers on the compound and in the middle of the yard there is a nice center piece with a rose bush in it. I thought it was the most beautiful rose bush I had ever seen. She told me they are not hard to take care of as long as they get lots of sunlight. I thought well sure my mother has had one for at least 25 years and my father hasn't killed it yet. So they must be tough. Well we bought two of them at Lowe's and planted then in the back yard. It has been two weeks and we have our first rose. So we are planting at least two more in the front. Also if anyone knows of any other flowering shrub that they think is nice please let me know. We are trying to add some color to the front of the house. Here is a pic I took this morning.

My two favorite plants that we have are the hydrangea bushes and the phlox. We haven't seen the hydrangea bloom in two seasons because we almost killed them by pruning them incorrectly but I think they'll be okay next year. And the phlox are gorgeous. They are a low growing moss like flower that creeps and spreads with these tiny sweet blooms. The problem is that they only bloom for about a month in the very early spring. After that you just get a green covering. Not sure if you could use either one (or want to) but those are my favorites.
